World Bank’s private sector investment arm, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) has launched a new, USD 6 billion financing facility to tackle global food crisis.
It will support sustainable production and delivery of food stocks to countries affected by food instability, by supporting private sector companies.

Ace tennis player Novak Djokovic won the Tel Aviv Open title in 2022 held in Israel. It is regarded as the biggest prize in tennis.
The 35-year-old Serbian beat Croatia’s Marin Cilic 6-3, 6-4 in the final to win his first title since Wimbledon in July. He was handed a large three-foot-tall trophy.

The World Trade Organization (WTO) slashed its forecast for global trade volume growth to 1 per cent from 3.4 per cent estimated earlier.
The Geneva-based body said that world trade may lose momentum in the second half of 2022 and remain subdued in 2023. WTO revised upward its merchandise trade growth forecast for 2022, to 3.5 per cent from its April estimate of 3 per cent.

Insurance penetration is measured as the percentage of insurance premiums to GDP. In India, the insurance penetration is estimated at a little over 3 per cent.
HDFC Life, one of the country’s leading Insurance Companies, has recently launched the ‘Insure India’ campaign. The campaign aims to educate Indians on the benefits of life insurance as a product category.

The Union Government has appointed a commission to consider the possibility of granting SC status to the persons who have historically belonged to the Scheduled Castes but have converted to religions other than Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhism.
The three-member Commission is headed by former Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan. The Cimmission has been asked to submit report in two years.

Union Minister for Heavy Industries Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey inaugurated ‘Conference on Industry 4.0: Challenges Ahead and Way Forward’, at Kevadia Gujarat.
The Conference is aimed at sensitising industrial sectors in the country to adopt digital manufacturing processes and to promote automation and innovation in the industry. ‘Model Smart Factory and Assessment Tools’ was also inaugurated on the occasion.

Leading private sector bank of India, HDFC Bank, announced the launch of SmartHub Vyapar Merchant app.
It is a payments and banking solution for small and medium-sized businesses. HDFC Bank has developed the SmartHub Vyapar app in partnership with a merchant Saas platform, Mintoak Innovations India. The app enables merchants to accept payments across multiple payment modes.

On 9 October 1946, the Indian government had established the Indian Foreign Service for India’s diplomatic, consular and commercial representation overseas.
After independence, there was a transition of the Foreign and Political Department into the new Ministry of External Affairs. To mark the occasion, the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) Day is celebrated on October 9 every year.

North Korea fired two ballistic missiles into the sea, just hours after a nuclear-powered US aircraft carrier concluded joint drills off the Korean peninsula.
It is also the seventh such launch in two weeks. Japan, South Korea and USA have ramped up combined naval exercises in recent weeks.

According to the latest Commitment to Reducing Inequality Index (CRII), India has moved up six places to rank 123 out of 161 countries for reducing inequality.
Norway leads the CRII followed by Germany and Australia. India continues to be among the lowest performers in health spending. The Index is prepared by Oxfam International and Development Finance International (DFI), which measures governments’ policies and actions in three areas: public services (health, education, and social protection), taxation and workers’ rights.
