The Japanese Parliament Diet’s upper chamber recently approved a legislation to tackle loneliness and social isolation. It will come to effect on April 1 next year.
In a survey conducted by the government in 2022 for people age 16 or over nationwide, 40.3% of all respondents said that they had felt lonely.

Shangri-La Dialogue was held in Singapore recently. It is organised by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) and participated by 41 countries.
During this conference, Germany’s Defence Minister recent announced that the country will be sending two warships to the Indo-Pacific in 2024.

June’s full moon, also known as the Strawberry Moon, rose on June 3. The moon will then reach new moon on June 18, at which point it will be totally lost in the sun’s glare.
The next full moon, July’s Buck Moon, will rise on Monday, July 3.

India Rankings 2023 was released recently by Minister of State for Education and External Affairs. It is based on the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) developed by the Ministry of Education in 2015.
Indian Institute of Technology Madras retains its 1st position in Overall Category for fifth consecutive year, i.e. 2019 to 2023 and in Engineering for eighth consecutive year, i.e. from 2016 to 2023.

Nyaya Vikas Portal was launched recently for monitoring the implementation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes.
It provides information regarding the funding, documentation, project monitoring and approval of these schemes. The Department of Justice has been implementing the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) for Development of Infrastructure Facilities for Districts and Subordinate Judiciary since 1993-94.

The 6th edition of Exercise Ekatha was held in Maldives 3 between Indian Navy divers and Marine Commandos and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
This bilateral exercise aims to boost interoperability in diving and special operations. The 5th edition of Exercise Ekatha was held in October 2022 at Maldives.

Eco-Vizag Campaign was launched by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) in Andhra Pradesh to promote public participation in combating air and plastic pollution.
It will focus on 5 components – eco-cleaning, greenery, water conservation, plastic ban and pollution reduction.

The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a portal to create Family ID under ‘One Family One Identity’ scheme.
The goal is to create a comprehensive database of family units of the state and to connect at least one member of each family with employment.

Notes:
The Varunastra is an Indian advanced heavyweight anti-submarine torpedo. It is developed by Naval Science and Technological Laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the Indian Navy.
Recently, the torpedo was successfully test fired with a live warhead against an undersea target placed 40 km away in the Arabian Sea.

Notes:
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) recently approved the continuation of the “Exploration of Coal and Lignite scheme”.
This central sector scheme will be implemented from 2021-22 to 2025-26 with an estimated expenditure of Rs. 2980 crore.
