A Herpetofauna (amphibians and reptiles) survey was conducted simultaneously in six protected areas of areas of Munnar wildlife division.
The survey has recorded the presence of 60 species of amphibians and 74 reptiles. This was for the first time a herpetofaunal survey was carried out covering all of the protected areas.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the inaugural session of the First All India District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) Meet.
The first-ever national level meet of DLSAs is being organised at Vigyan Bhawan by National Legal Services Authority (NALSA). The meeting will have discussions on creation of an integrated procedure to synchronise DLSAs. There are a total of 676 DLSAs in the country.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik released a book titled ‘Lockdown Lyrics’, a collection of poems written by poet Sanjukta Dash.
Dash, an Odia poet has three anthologies of poetries in Odia language. ‘Lockdown Lyrics’ is her debut book in English. It was written based on the experiences during the pandemic.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar recently launched the ‘Chief Minister Equal Education Relief, Assistance and Grant (Cheerag)’ scheme.
It aims to provide ‘free education’ to Economically Weaker Section (EWS) students of government schools in budget private schools. Under the scheme, government school students whose parents have an annual verified income of less than Rs 1.8 lakh can enroll in private schools.

Union Minister for Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal announced that India has achieved a landmark milestone, as there are 75000 startups in the country.
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has recognized more than 75,000 startups.  The initial ten thousand startups were recognized in 808 days, while the latest ten thousand were achieved in only 156 days.

The Dutch government (Netherlands) has recently declared a water shortage, following an unusually dry summer with no rain forecast in the near future.
Intense heat-waves hit large parts of Europe and the United States last month, rising calls for more efforts to tackle global warming. As two-thirds of the Dutch population living below sea level, droughts can become an acute problem in the Netherlands. This may lead to silting up of rivers and hampering of water traffic.

Tulika Maan clinched a silver medal for India in Judo at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in the 78 kg category.
Earlier, Sushila Likmabam got a silver medal in the Women’s 48kg category, and Vijay Kumar Yadav won a bronze medal in the Men’s 60kg category in Judo.

The Department of Consumer Affairs recently launched the ‘Grand Onion Challenge’.
The challenge seeks ideas from young professionals, professors and scientists for designs and for improving pre-harvesting techniques, primary processing, storage, and transportation of post harvested onions in the country.

The Central government moved the ‘The New Delhi International Arbitration Centre (Amendment) Bill, 2022’ in the Lok Sabha.
Law Minister Kiren Rijuu moved the Bill to amend the New Delhi International Arbitration Centre Act, 2019. It seeks to rename the centre to ‘India International Arbitration Centre’, to give it a wider country-level scope instead of a city-level scope.

‘Peninsular Rock Agama’ (Psammophilus dorsalis) is a type of garden lizard which has a strong presence in southern India.
A study carried out by researchers from Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru shows that habitat loss and other features of urbanisation have affected the presence of the animal in urban centres. The presence of these ectotherms indicates warmer patches in the city as well as presence of insects.
