The Central Government has established a task force to monitor monkey-pox situation in India. It is headed by Dr VK Paul, member (Health), NITI Aayog.
The task force also includes Secretary, Union Health Ministry, Pharma and Biotech. It will advise the government on expanding diagnostic facilities and investigating vaccination against the disease. India has reported four Monkeypox cases so far, three cases in Kerala and one in Delhi.

Long March is a flagship series of rockets launched by China. The ‘Long March 5B Rocket’ recently crash-landed near the Indian Ocean.
It was launched in June to deliver the solar-powered Wentian experiment module to China’s Tiangong Space Station. In a statement, NASA said that China did not share specific trajectory information as the Long March 5B rocket fell back to Earth.

20 year old Achinta Sheuli clinched gold medal for India in the Commonwealth Games 2022 in 73-kg category of Weight lifting.
He won the first place with a combined effort of 313 Kilograms (143kg in snatch and 170kg in clean & jerk). Mirabai Chanu and Jeremy Lalrinunnga have earlier claimed gold medals while Bindyarani Devi and Sanketh Sargar picked up silver medals.

Australia is the host of ‘Pitch Black’, an international Air Combat Exercise. India is set to participate in the 17-Nation Exercise.
It includes the participation of around 100 aircraft and 2,500 military personnel from 17 countries. Other participants include Australia, Canada, India, France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, the UAE, the UK and the US.

The Union Cabinet has cleared the Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2022, and it will be tabled in ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament. The bill aims to bring in more flexibility and accountability to the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
CCI is a regulatory authority tasked with checking and eliminating business practices that may harm competition. The body consists of a chairperson and 6 members appointed by the central government.

Tejaswin Shankar became the first Indian to win men’s high jump medal in the Commonwealth Games.
The national record holder cleared 2.22m to finish third on the event winning bronze medal.  He holds the high jump national record of 2.29 metre.

India’s leading phosphatic fertiliser player, Coromandel International Ltd, is set to acquire 45% equity share in Baobab Mining and Chemicals Corporation (BMCC).
BMCC is a rock phosphate mining company based in Senegal. As per the Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, the investment aims to achieve supply security goals for meeting the country’s fertilizer needs.
