Ladakh’s first Polo Stadium, built at a cost of 6.84 crore rupees, was also unveiled at the event. L. Shruthi from Chennai won the Women’s World Billiards Championship title in Walsall, England, defeating Keerath Bhandaal 215-202. At 17, Shruthi was the lowest-ranked among seven competitors from five nations. Shruthi won five consecutive matches to claim her first world title. In the final, she defeated Keerath by 13 points, after a 28-point win over her in the group stage.

The Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports launched a national appeal to combat doping in sports. Athletes, coaches, and the sports community are encouraged to use NADA India’s ‘Know Your Medicine (KYM)’ app. The KYM app is part of NADA’s mission to boost anti-doping awareness and education. It lets users check if a medicine or ingredient is prohibited by WADA. The app promotes fair sports by helping athletes make informed choices. Unique features include image and audio search, plus sport-specific information, making it user-friendly for athletes and sports personnel.

The 4th National Finswimming Championship 2024 took place in New Delhi with 1500 participants from 26 states and UTs. West Bengal won the team championship with 151 medals (67 gold, 43 silver, 41 bronze). Karnataka was the runner-up with 50 medals (17 gold, 18 silver, 15 bronze). Uttarakhand and Haryana both secured 21 medals, but Uttarakhand placed third due to more gold medals (8 gold, 6 silver, 7 bronze). The event, organized by Underwater Sports Federation of India (USFI) and the Physical Education Foundation of India, highlighted India’s growing finswimming talent.

Italy won the Billie Jean King Cup 2024, defeating Slovakia 2-0 in the final. Jasmine Paolini secured the victory by beating Rebecca Sramkova. The Billie Jean King Cup, originally called the Federation Cup, began in 1963 to mark the 50th anniversary of the International Tennis Federation (ITF). The 61st edition of the tournament was held in Malaga, Spain, from 14 to 20 November 2024. The Billie Jean King Cup is the top international team competition in women’s tennis.

Eight-year-old Divith Reddy from Hyderabad won the Under-8 World Cadets Chess Championship in Montesilvano, Italy. He scored 9/11 points, tying with Sattwik Swain and Ziming Guo, but secured gold due to a better tie-break score. Divith, with a FIDE rating of 1784, won his first four matches, lost two, but then won five consecutive matches to clinch the title. The FIDE World Cadet Championships 2024 were held from November 14-27, 2024, in Montesilvano, Italy, with categories for U8, U10, and U12.

Siddharth Kaul, a 34-year-old pacer from Punjab, announced his retirement from Indian cricket. He represented India in 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is during 2018-19 and was part of the 2008 U-19 World Cup-winning team with Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja. Kaul played for IPL teams like Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. He has 297 wickets in First-Class, 199 in List A, and 182 in T20s. Kaul is the highest wicket-taker in the Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophies.

The 20th Asian Women’s Handball Championship held from 3 to 10 December 2024, in New Delhi, India. This is the first time the Handball Association India (HAI) is hosting the event. Initially planned for Almaty, Kazakhstan, the championship was moved to New Delhi. It serves as a qualifier for the 27th IHF Women’s Handball World Championship in 2025 in Germany and the Netherlands.
