Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the AIFF-FIFA Talent Academy in Bhubaneswar in the presence of Arsene Wenger, chief of global football development at FIFA.
A total of 50 talented football players, including 15 from Odisha, in the Under-14 category will be selected for the academy from across the country. The academy will be headed by a FIFA-appointed coach along with various coaches and staff from AIFF and the Odisha government.

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur inaugurated the Khelo India Para Games 2023 in New Delhi.
More than 1400 players from 32 states and Union Territories and Services Sports Board are participating in these Games between December 10 and 17 at three venues in New Delhi. The Competition will be held in seven para-sports which include athletics, shooting, archery, football, badminton, table tennis and weightlifting. Some of India’s top international para stars like Sheetal Devi, Bhavina Patel, Ashok and others will participate in the event.

The NBA has commemorated the inaugural World Basketball Day, a global initiative established by the United Nations on August 23 during the FIBA World Cup. This day, marking the anniversary of Dr. James Naismith’s introduction of basketball at the Springfield YMCA in 1891, will be observed annually on December 21.

Raghuram Iyer has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). His appointment follows a meticulous selection process conducted by the nomination committee of the IOA. Iyer’s extensive experience in sports management and administration, particularly his previous roles as CEO of Indian Premier League teams Rajasthan Royals and Rising Pune Supergiants, has been recognized as making him an ideal candidate for this position. The appointment comes after a significant delay and repeated reminders from the International Olympic Committee (IOC). As CEO, Iyer will play a crucial role in promoting and developing Olympic sports in India and will be an ex-officio member of the IOA’s Executive Council, although without voting rights.
