Notes:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a copy of the Braille version of the Assamese Dictionary ‘Hemkosh’.
Hemkosh was among the earliest Assamese dictionaries dating back to the 19th century. Hemkosh is the first etymological dictionary of Assamese language based on Sanskrit spellings. It was compiled by Hemchandra Barua.

Notes:
The Indian Navy launched two indigenously designed and built Diving Support Vessels (DSVs) – Nistar and Nipun in Visakhapatnam.
The vessels were built by Hindustan Shipyard Ltd. The vessels have complex diving support systems and a Deep Submergence Rescue Vessel (DSRV), which will be deployed for deep sea diving and submarine rescue operations.

As per the Sample Registration System (SRS) Statistical Report 2020 released on September 22, 2022 by Registrar General of India (RGI), India has been witnessing progressive reduction in IMR, U5MR and NMR.
Under-five mortality rate was recorded at 32 per 1000 live births in 2020 against 35 per 1000 live births in 2019. Infant Mortality rate (IMR) has also registered 2-point decline to 28 per 1000 live births in 2020 from 30 per 1000 live births in 2019.

President Droupadi Murmu conferred the National Service Scheme NSS Awards for the year 2020-21 at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The Department of Youth Affairs of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports confers every year the National Service Scheme Award. A total of forty-two Awards were given to two Universities, ten NSS Units, their Programme Officers, and 30 NSS Volunteers.

The Duleep Trophy final between the West Zone and South Zone was recently held in the city of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
It is a domestic first-class cricket competition played in India. In this year’s edition, West Zone defeated South Zone by 294 runs, and won the title. Ajinkya Rahane was the skipper of the West Zone cricket team.

India’s ace female cricketer Jhulan Goswami announced her retirement recently, as she played her final international match against England at Lord’s.
Jhulan played 12 Tests, 204 ODIs and 68 T20Is for the Indian women’s team. She has clinched 255 ODI wickets, the most by a women’s cricketer in the format. In 2007, Jhulan Goswami became the first female Indian cricketer to be named the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year. She received the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2010.

Australia’s attorney general recently introduced the National Anti-Corruption Commission bill. The National Anti-Corruption Commission is a body to investigate and report on serious or systemic corruption in the public sector.
It will be led by a commissioner, who will serve one fixed term of five years. NACC has a broad jurisdiction to investigate commonwealth ministers, parliamentarians, staff, the heads and employees of commonwealth agencies, government contractors and their employees, defence force members, statutory office holders among others.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik released the ‘Encyclopedia of Tribes in Odisha’. The five volumes of the encyclopedia were published by Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Research and Training Institute (SCSTRTI) and Odisha State Tribal Museum.
The edited volumes contain 3800 pages and 418 research articles covering all 62 tribal communities and 13 particularly vulnerable tribal groups. The book will be a repository for academicians, researchers and policymakers.

Kerala’s new draft industrial policy was released after a gap of four years. The major incentives proposed include 10% investment subsidy on fixed capital for non-MSMEs, subject to a maximum of ₹10 crore and 100% State GST reimbursement for capital investment for five years for non-MSMEs.
The policy focuses on the state’s traditional sectors as well as sunrise sectors including Artificial Intelligence, hi-tech farming, value added rubber products, medical equipment, biotechnology, electric vehicles, and robotics.

Notes:
The Supreme Court ruled that all women are entitled to safe and legal abortion and that the distinction between married and unmarried women in this matter is unconstitutional.
The Supreme Court also said that unmarried women are also entitled to seek abortion of pregnancy in the term of 20-24 weeks arising out of a consensual relationship. A three-judge bench headed by Justice D.Y. Chandrachud ruled that under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, the definition of rape must include marital rape.
