Indian-origin Home Secretary Suella Braverman has been named winner of the first-ever Queen Elizabeth II Woman of the Year award.
The 42-year-old barrister was appointed to the Cabinet earlier this month by British Prime Minister Liz Truss. The awards recognise the achievements of individuals from across Britain’s South Asian community via public nominations.

Ageas Federal Life Insurance (AFLI) has become the first life insurance company in India to have a 74% stake held by a foreign partner.
Belgium-based Ageas Insurance International recently completed the acquisition of the 25% stake in the life insurance joint venture (JV) from IDBI Bank. With this, shareholding of Ageas in the JV rose to 74% from the earlier-held 49%. Federal Bank continues to hold a 26% stake in the life insurer, while IDBI Bank exited as a shareholder.

Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge, who is regarded as the world’s greatest marathon runner, broke his own world record by 30 seconds at the Berlin Marathon.
The 37-year-old Olympic champion clocked 2:01:09 to cut 30 seconds off his previous best-mark of 2:01:39 from the same event in 2018.

The Union Bank of India inaugurated the Ethical Hacking Lab at the Cyber Security Centre of Excellence (CCoE) in Hyderabad.
The lab which is equipped with cyber defence mechanism will protect the bank’s information system, digital assets, and channels, against cyber threats.

The government launched the indigenously-developed AVGAS 100 LL. It has been developed by Indian Oil Corporation.
It is a special aviation fuel meant for piston engine aircrafts and unmanned Arial vehicles. At present, India is importing this product from European countries. The domestic production of AVGAS 100 LL is produced by Indian Oil at its Gujarat refinery.

The Central Government has decided to extend the free food-grain scheme for those below the poverty line (BPL), for another three months till December 31, 2022.
This will be the seventh phase of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) which will cost the Centre an additional Rs 44,762 crore.

Swedish defence firm Saab announced its plan to set up a manufacturing facility in India for the Carl-Gustaf M4 shoulder-fired weapon system.
A new company, Saab FFV India, will make the latest rocket launchers in India for the Indian armed forces, along with components for users of the weapon system around the world. Production at the new facility is expected to begin in 2024 under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

The Schneeferner in the Bavarian Alps is the highest and largest glacier of Germany. As per the experts, the Southern Schneeferner in the Alps has been removed from the Glacier status after it melted due to extreme summer this year.
As per the Bavarian Academy of Sciences, Germany now has only four glaciers left. Many of Europe’s glaciers are likely to vanish in the coming decades due to human-caused climate change.

Union Cabinet of India has approved a MoU between India and Bangladesh on withdrawal of upto 153 cusecs of water each by India and Bangladesh from the common border river Kushiyara.
This MoU will enable Government of Assam to withdraw upto 153 cusecs of water from Kushiyara River during dry season (1st November to 31st May).

The program included participation of CPSEs like NTPC Ltd., Food Corporation of India, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and Indian Oil Corporation Limited, financial institutions such as State Bank of India and Yes Bank.
