Recently, Switzerland returned to Egypt a piece of a 3,400-year-old statue belonging to the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Ramses II. The fragment had been stolen over three decades ago.
Ramses II, famously known as Ramses the Great, governed for over six decades in the 13th century BC. Throughout his reign, he achieved significant military triumphs, spearheaded grand construction initiatives, and remarkably fathered a progeny of over 100 offspring.

Notes:
The Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013 was enacted to eradicate manual scavenging in all its forms and ensure the holistic rehabilitation of individuals identified as manual scavengers.
Recently the eighth meeting of the Central Monitoring Committee was held at Dr Ambedkar International Centre to assess the implementation of the act.

Tamil Nadu has issued Guidelines for ‘Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai’ scheme. As per the guidelines, women with an annual family income of less than ₹2.5 lakh; family land holding not exceeding 5 acres (wetland) and 10 acres (dryland); and annual household electricity consumption below 3,600 units would be eligible to avail themselves of a monthly aid of Rs 1,000 in Tamil Nadu.

The 7^th edition of the bilateral Japan-India Maritime Exercise 2023 (JIMEX 23) hosted by the Indian Navy, is was conducted at and off Visakhapatnam from 5^th to 10^th July 2023.
The exercise was conducted in two phases – a Harbour Phase at Visakhapatnam comprising professional, sports and social interactions and the war phase in which the two navies jointly horned their warfighting skills at sea.

The Department of Administrative Reforms and Grievance Redressal (DARPG) has developed the National e Governance Service Delivery Assessment (NeSDA) with an objective of measuring the effectiveness of the existing e Governance service delivery mechanism, from the citizen’s perspective.
The secretary of DARPG, has released the 3^rd edition of National e Governance Service Delivery Assessment.

Renowned artist Karuvattu Mana Vasudevan Namboothiri popularly known as artist Namboothiri passed away.
Namboothiri illustrated characters of top Malayalam writers such as Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai, Kesavadev, M T Vasudevan Nair, Uroob, S K Pottekkatt and VKN. He was also a painter, sculptor and art director.

The State of the Climate in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2022 report, issued by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), highlights the escalating effects of global warming and resulting climate change in the region.
Over the past three decades, the region has experienced significant impacts including rising average temperatures, altered rainfall patterns, and a surge in extreme weather phenomena such as heatwaves, droughts, wildfires, tropical cyclones, floods, landslides, as well as the melting of glaciers and rising sea levels.

The Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA) in India has developed an early warning system known as the “farmers’ distress index” to address agricultural challenges.
The index, aimed at reducing crop loss, income shocks, and farmer distress, is nearing completion and will be presented to the central government within the next few months.

The Assembly Judiciary Committee of California recently held a hearing regarding Senate Bill 403 (SB403), a proposed legislation aiming to forbid caste discrimination.
If this bill is approved, California would be the first state in the United States to explicitly prohibit caste-based discrimination, extending protections to caste as a recognized category within the state’s Unruh Civil Rights Act, fair housing laws, and employment laws.

Union government has sought an explanation from the West Bengal government regarding the diversion of PM POSHAN (midday meal scheme) funds for State elections.
The letter mentioned that funds earmarked for midday meal under PM POSHAN are being used for a different purpose.
