A report titled ‘Trade in services for development’ was released recently by the World Bank and World Trade Organization (WTO).
According to this report, in India, South Africa, and Turkey, employment opportunities directly associated with cross-border services exports constitute over 10% of the total workforce in the services sector.

The Deendayal Antyodaya Yojna- National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) has introduced the eSARAS mobile App, aimed at enhancing marketing assistance for products created by women belonging to Self-help Groups (SHGs).
This app will contribute to the existing eCommerce endeavors focused on promoting SHG-produced goods. DAY-NRLM is a flagship scheme of Ministry of Rural Development.

The ‘Quadripartite’ — comprising the United Nations (UN) Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) — released the One Health Priority Research Agenda on Antimicrobial Resistance through a webinar.
The organisations work specifically in the areas of human, animal, plant, and environmental health. WHO also launched a global research agenda for AMR in human health recently.

Egypt and Turkey had appointed Ambassadors to each others’ countries for the first time in a decade.
The two nations’ relations broke down in 2013 after Egypt’s then-army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi led the ouster of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Mohamed Mursi, an ally of Ankara. Egypt expelled Turkey’s ambassador and accused Ankara of backing organizations bent on undermining the country.

The Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013 was enacted to eradicate manual scavenging in all its forms and ensure the holistic rehabilitation of individuals identified as manual scavengers.
Recently the eighth meeting of the Central Monitoring Committee was held at Dr Ambedkar International Centre to assess the implementation of the act.

The U.N. Security Council will hold a first-ever meeting on the threats of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on July 18.
The meeting organized by the United Kingdom, will see global leaders discussing the potential threats of artificial intelligence (AI) to international peace and security. This meeting has been presented as a centrepiece of the UK’s presidency of the council.

NLC India Limited, a navratna company under the Ministry of Coal, has bagged the GeM award in the category “Timely Payments (CPSEs)” for the year 2023.
The award has been conferred to NLC India Limited for its outstanding contribution in improving the reliability of e-market practices of GeM. The company has registered a growth of Rs 984.93 crore in GEM procurements during the year FY 2022-23.

Every year, 7^th July is celebrated by the United Nations as the World Kiswahili Language Day. A resolution in this regard was adopted in 2017 in order to inform and raise awareness of their history, culture and use.
Kiswahili is the first African language to the recognized in such a manner by the UN. The Theme of 2023 is “Unleashing Kiswahili’s potential in the digital era”.

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Leqembi (lecanemab-irmb) which is a medication designed to treat Alzheimer’s disease.
However, this decision raises difficult issues concerning the safety and affordability of the drug.

The report titled ‘Uncovering the Invisible: Successes and Challenges for Wildlife Crime Prosecution in Europe’ highlights that a significant number of wildlife crimes in Europe go unnoticed or unpunished, with approximately 60% of reported complaints not resulting in indictments.
The study conducted by the LIFE SWiPE project, which focuses on successful wildlife crime prosecution in Europe, reveals that suspended imprisonment was the most common form of punishment issued.
