The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2022 report was issued by U.N. agencies: FAO, IFAD, UNICEF, WFP and WHO.
The number of undernourished people in India has declined in the last 15 years to 224.3 million in 2019-2021. The report also noted that there are more obese adults and anaemic women in India, the world’s second most populous country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the centenary memorial pillar of Bihar Assembly recently, to mark the conclusion of the one-year centennial celebration of the state legislature building.
The foundation stone for the centenary pillar was laid by President Ram Nath Kovind on October 21 last year. The PM will also officially christened the garden located near the pillar as ‘Shatabdi Smriti Udyan’.

Ola Electric launched the country’s first indigenously developed lithium ion cell. The Bengaluru-based two-wheeler maker is set to begin the mass production of the cell ‘NMC 2170’, from its Chennai-based Gigafactory by 2023.
The cell packs more energy in a given space and also improves the overall life cycle of the cell, due to the specific chemicals and materials used.

New Delhi Lieutenant Governor announced significant changes in the property tax policy of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) after its unification.
He also launched ‘SAH-BHAGITA scheme’ to reward Residential Welfare Association (RWAs) for property tax collection and waste management systems.

The Global Gender Gap Index for 2022 was recently released by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
Iceland (90.8%) led the global ranking in the first place while India is ranked at 135 out of 146 countries. Last year, India was ranked 140 out of 156 countries. As per the report, it will take another 132 years to close the global gender gap.

The ancient Buddhist city, Mes Aynak was a vast city organised around the extraction and trade of copper. It was carved out of peaks near Kabul in Afghanistan.
It was believed to be between 1,000 and 2,000 years old. In 2007 the Chinese mining giant Metallurgical Group Corporation (MCC) signed a USD 3 billion contract to mine ore over 30 years. The project is once again a priority for Talibans and China.

India reported its first monkey-pox case in the state of Kerala. The sample of a 35-year-old man, which was sent to the National Virology Institute in Pune, tested positive for the disease.
The man is said to have arrived in Kerala from the UAE three days ago. Monkeypox is a viral zoonotic disease with symptoms similar to smallpox, with a lesser clinical severity.

National Skill Development Mission, which is also known as Skill India Mission, was launched on July 15 in the year 2015.
The 7th Anniversary of the Skill India Mission was celebrated this year. Under the Pradhanmantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna, more than one crore 36 lakh young persons have been trained so far. The scheme aims to empower the youth with skill sets, making them more employable.

Brijendra Kumar Syngal, who is also referred to as father of Internet in India, passed away recently at the age of 82.
He was the former chairman of Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited. Under his leadership, the company rolled out India’s internet service and launched its biggest global depository receipt issue. He was earlier associated with satellite communications company Inmarsat.

Indian Tech Major Infosys announced that it will acquire Denmark-based BASE life science for about 110 million euros (Rs 875 crore).
This acquisition will deepen the expertise of Infosys in life sciences domain and strengthen its footprint across Europe. BASE life science has finest industry experts across Denmark, Switzerland, UK, Germany, France, Italy, and a near-shore technology hub in Spain.
