The Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), Kolkata and the Natural History Museum (NHM), signed a Memorandum of Understanding. Dr. Dhriti Banerjee, the first lady Director of ZSI signed the MoU.
Through this MoU, the institutions are committed to implement the 1973 Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Fauna (“CITES”), the 1992 Convention on Biological Diversity (“CBD”) and other national and regional laws and regulations concerning biodiversity.

MyGov India, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has launched the Planetarium Innovation Challenge for Indian start-ups and tech entrepreneurs
The challenge aims to encourage tech firms and Indian start-ups to build an indigenous planetariums system software using latest technologies like Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) and Merged Reality (MR). The applicants may be Start-ups, Indian Entities or Individuals or Teams.

Notes:
The first in-person meeting of Quad leaders was recently hosted by US President Joe Biden at Washington D.C. Prime Minister of India Modi and his counterparts Scott Morrison from Australia and Yoshihide Suga from Japan gathered in the city for the meeting.
In 2017, India, Japan, the US and Australia formed the alliance, named QUAD. It aimed to keep the critical sea routes in the Indo-Pacific free of any influence, especially from China. Before Quad summit, Prime Minister Modi separately met his Australian and Japanese counterparts.

The Bangabandhu-Bapu digital exhibition was recently inaugurated for public viewing in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The exhibition showcases the lives of the father of the nation of Bangladesh- Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Mahatma Gandhi. The exhibition has been specially designed by the two governments to commemorate Mujib Boarsho, birth centenary of Bangabandhu and 150 years of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi and the golden jubilee of India-Bangladesh bilateral relations.

La Palma is a volcanic ocean island group, and a part of the Canary Islands. With a population of over 83,000, it is also the fifth largest of the eight main Canary Islands.
The volcano on Spain’s La Palma has begun spewing lava and smoke again, after activity had earlier slowed to a near halt. Some coastal villages locked down anticipating the lava reaching the sea. The coastal areas of San Borondon, Marina Alta and Baja and La Condesa are locked, where the superheated lava is expected to hit the Atlantic Ocean, triggering clouds of toxic gas.

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is a United Nations’ agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism. It is headquartered at Madrid, Spain.
World Tourism Day is observed every year on September 27 to mark the anniversary of the adoption of the Statutes of the Organization in 1970, which established the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). UNWTO was established on this day in 1980. This year the theme of World Tourism Day is ‘Tourism for Inclusive Growth’.

An earthquake with a magnitude of at least 5.8 struck the Greek island of Crete recently, killing one person and injuring several people.
Greece’s Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Ministry is evacuating the people in the affected areas.  Crete is the largest and most populous of the Greek islands and the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has created the Academic Block-Chain Documents (ABCD) software.
CBSE has collaborated with the Centre of Excellence for Blockchain Technology of National Informatics Centre under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to create the software. It is a blockchain-based system to go paperless and deliver secure, transparent result certificates to students. In 2016, CBSE was the first to develop its own academic repository named ‘Parinam Manjusha’.

Notes:
The XENON1T experiment, which was seen in the news, is the world’s most sensitive dark matter experiment. It was operated deep underground at the INFN Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso in Italy.
Dark energy is said to be the mysterious form of energy that makes up about 68% of the universe. A new study, led by researchers at the University of Cambridge, suggests that some unexplained results from the XENON1T experiment may have been caused by dark energy. However, the experiment was designed to detect dark matter.

The Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) will be dissolved from 1st October 2021 and will be converted into seven new public sector units.
All the assets including the 41 factories and its employees of the Ordnance Factory Board would be transferred to the new PSUs namely Munitions India Ltd, Armoured Vehicles Nigam Ltd, Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Ltd, Troop Comforts Ltd, Yantra India Ltd, India Optel Ltd and Gliders India Ltd.
