UK-based financial publication Euromoney in its Global Awards for Excellence 2021, has honoured DBS with the ‘World’s Best Bank 2021’ title. This is the second time DBS bank has won this title in three years. DBS Bank was also named as ‘World’s Best Digital Bank 2021’, thus making it the first bank in the world to hold both the titles at the same time.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has launched the MyMeG Program. This program has been launched with the primary aim to facilitate participation in the governance process and citizen engagement. This program has been launched to keep in line with the state’s aim to becoming one of India’s top ten states by 2030.

The Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) to install public charging stations for electric vehicles in Punjab. ESL is a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. (EESL). ESL is a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. (EESL). Through cooperation with PEDA, CESL plans to expand its electric vehicles product portfolio. Additionally, CESL will provide convenient and affordable charging infrastructure in the state.

As part of the Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana initiated by the Minister of Railway Ashwini Vaishnaw on September 17, 2021, the railway will train 50,000 young people aged 18 to 35 in the next three years in industry-related skills in various Railway Training Institutes.

The annual ‘Crime India’ report is released by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). The report for the year 2020 was released recently.
As per the report, India recorded 1.20 lakh cases of “deaths due to negligence relating to road accidents” in 2020. Communal riots marked an increase of 96% in 2020 over the previous year. Offences against the State’, had a drop of 27% over 2019 but Uttar Pradesh was the only major state to record an increase in this category.

The IUCN status of the “Humboldt Penguin” is “Vulnerable”. Humboldt Penguin is a South American penguin mainly housed in the Pinguino de Humbold National Reserve in Chile.

Eighty per cent of the world’s Humboldt Penguin population lives in the protected area of Chile. Mumbai’s Byculla Zoo has announced the addition of two new Humboldt penguin chicks this year. There are already seven adult Humboldt penguins at Byculla Zoo.

China is set to launch the Tianzhou-3 cargo spacecraft before the end of 2022. The Long March 7 rocket carrying the Tianzhou-3 cargo spacecraft was rolled out at the Wenchang Satellite Launch Center, South China.
Tianzhou-3 will mark the fourth of 11 missions for construction of China’s three-module space station, which is called Tiangong (“Heavenly Palace”).

With an aim to provide world class internet / tele-connectivity for the marginalised and to simplify the KYC processes, the Department of Telecommunications – Ministry of Communications, Government of India has initiated reforms in the telecom sector.
These include “Aadhaar based e-KYC”, “Self-KYC” for getting SIM cards delivered at doorstep and “OTP based conversion of mobile connection” from prepaid to postpaid.

The Beijing 2022 organizers released the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics as ‘Together For a Shared Future’.
An expert panel selected the motto from 79 proposals. The motto advocates a universal goal of unity, peace, progress and inclusiveness. It is also the interpretation of the newly revised Tokyo Olympic motto of ‘Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together. Beijing will become the first city to host both summer and winter Olympics.

The Government of India has constituted a 12-member National Steering Committee, under the chairmanship of K Kasturirangan, for formulating guidelines for changes in the CBSE / NCERT curriculum. The Committee has a term of three years. The document, called as the National Curriculum Framework (NCF), was last prepared in 2005.
Kasturirangan is the former Chief of ISRO and has also headed the committee that drafted the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
