European Union’s ‘Fit for 55 Package’ is a set of proposals to revise and update the European Union Legislation and launch new initiatives to achieve the reduction of carbon emissions by 55 percent by 2030 compared to a 1990 benchmark.
As part of this package, changes were made to the EU’s Emissions Trading System to bring down emissions in the industrial sector.

Gum Arabic is a key ingredient for fizzy drinks, candy and cosmetics. About 70 percent of the global supply of gum Arabic is sourced from the acacia trees in Sahel region, which runs through Sudan.
The conflict in Sudan has disrupted the supply of the crucial ingredient in soft drinks, chocolate bars, red wine and many other products.

Retired Commander Abhilash Tomy created history as the first Indian to complete the Golden Globe Race.
The Golden Globe Race is the longest sporting event in the world and bars the use of modern technology. Tomy is the first Asian skipper to finish on the podium in any round the world race, and in any format.

Ranajit Guha, an eminent Indian historian, has passed away recently. He was one of the founders of the Subaltern School, which is one of the most influential post-colonial, post-Marxist schools in history.
He authored several books, the latest one being ‘the Small Voice of History’ in 2009. He was the editor of Subaltern School group’s early anthologies and wrote both in English and in Bengali.

Recently, NTPC Ltd. and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL) signed a Supplementary Joint Venture Agreement to collaborate on the development of Nuclear Power Projects.
The initial plan for the JV company is to focus on two projects, Chutka Madhya Pradesh Atomic Power Project 2×700 MW and Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Project 4×700 MW, which are part of the fleet mode nuclear projects.

Delhi Chief Minister recently announced a ‘Summer action plan’ to combat air pollution during summer months. It involves the participation of 30 government departments.
The primary focus of the action plan is on dust pollution, which has been a major contributor to the city’s worsening air quality.

The UK and India are collaborating on an innovation partnership, called Innovating for Transport and Energy Systems (ITES), to develop more sustainable and affordable transportation systems, including electric vehicle-ready infrastructure. The partnership is backed by both governments, UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), and involves industry leaders, researchers, policymakers, and investors from both countries.
