The “New Big 5 project” is an international initiative involving more than 250 photographers, conservationists and wildlife charities across the globe to photograph five animals. The project aims to frame these five animals across the world instead of poaching it. These animals are elephant, polar bear, gorilla, tiger and lion.
Two animals from the Kaziranga National Park have made it into the list. But, the legendary one horn rhino is out of the list.

Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has proposed setting up a gold exchange. Under the proposed framework, gold would be traded in the form of electronic gold receipts and would have a domestic spot price discovery mechanism, which is transparent.
Under the proposed framework, gold would be denominated in 1 kilogram, 100 grams, 50 grams. Under special cases, they may even be denominated in 5 and 10 grams.

United Launch Alliance (ULA) is a joint venture between Lockheed Martin and Boeing. Atlas V, an expendable launch system, which was originally designed by Lockheed Martin, now being operated by ULA.
Recently, ULA Atlas V rocket lifted off with the fifth Space-Based Infrared System satellite for the United States Space Force. It was launched from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.

The Union Finance Ministry, on the recommendation of the Panchayati Raj Ministry, released Rs 8,923.8 crore to 25 states for providing grant to rural local bodies.
The Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance released the first installment of the Basic (Untied) Grants. It may be utilized among other things for various prevention and mitigation measures needed to combat the Covid pandemic

During the Google’s I/O developer conference, the company introduced AI-powered dermatology assist tool, which can detect skin diseases using smartphone cameras.
The tool is a web-based application that the company would launch as a pilot later this year. It enables the user understand the issues related to skin, hair and nails.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) released the second, annual Global Action Plan for Healthy Lives and Well-being for All (SDG3 GAP) progress report.
Global Action Plan for Healthy Lives and Well-being for All (GAP) was launched in 2019. The new report highlights how the SDG3 GAP is providing a long-term improvement platform for collaboration among 13 agencies for achieving the target of SDG3.

A team from Northwestern University has developed the most realistic, highest-resolution 3D simulation of star formation to date.
Named as STARFORGE (Star Formation in Gaseous Environments), it is the first framework to simulate an entire gas cloud, where the stars are born. It is also the first simulation to simultaneously model star formation, evolution and dynamics.

The Central government has approved setting up 22 new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) so far under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).
The Union Health Ministry announced that under the 22 institutes so far, six AIIMS at Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur and Rishikesh are already fully functional and in another seven AIIMS, OPD facility and MBBS classes have started.

World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development is observed on May 21 every year.
In 2001, UNESCO adopted the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity and in December 2002, the UN General Assembly declared May 21 as the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.

The President of Nepal Bidya Devi Bhandari has announced the dissolution of its Parliament and has decided to hold fresh elections in the month of November 2021.
This decision has been made by the President since neither the caretaker Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli nor the opposition leader could form a majority government in Nepal.
