Odisha has recently witnessed the first natural nesting of gharials. With this, it has become the only state to have all the three species of the reptile: freshwater gharials, muggers, and saltwater crocodiles.
Gharials were first introduced in 1975 in Odisha. They are considered as the most critically endangered and genetically weak species, compared to saltwater crocodiles and muggers.

The Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the merger of Government owned Central Railside Warehouse Company Ltd (CRWC), with its holding company Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC).
This decision has been made in line with the ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance’ policy of the Government, as spelt out in Budget 2021-22.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) have launched a joint initiative named Tax Inspectors Without Borders (TIWB) in Bhutan.
For this initiative, India has been chosen as a Partner Jurisdiction. This programme aims to aid Bhutan in strengthening its tax administration.

Ambergris, or grey amber, is a solid waxy substance of grey colour produced in the digestive system of sperm whales.
Also called as whale vomit or floating gold, it is highly demanded in the international market. Over 9 kg of Ambergris was seized by the Mumbai Police over the past 15 days. It is used to create fragrances like musk and in some traditional medicines.

Union Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment implements the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA).
Union Social Justice Minister recently launched the website for the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA). Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment is the nodal ministry for Drug Demand Reduction in India.

Abhishek Verma created history by becoming the first man to win two World Cup gold medals in individual compound archery.
He recently won the gold in the men’s individual compound event at the Archery World Cup Stage 3, being held in Paris. He had previously won gold at the individual event in Wroclaw in 2015.

Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), South Asia’s largest hospitality company, owns the famous hotel brand ‘Taj’.
Recently, IHCL announced that its iconic brand, Taj, has been rated the Strongest Hotel Brand in the World by Brand Finance, a brand valuation consultancy in its annual ‘Hotels 50 2021’ report. This report recognizes the most valuable hotel brands across the globe.

The Central Government is set to notify the reappointment of Senior Advocate K K Venugopal as Attorney General for India for a period of one more year.
Being a constitutional post, the Attorney General for India is the top legal officer in the country. Mr Venugopal took over as the 15th Attorney General for India on July 1, 2017 and he is 91 years old.

The Reserve Bank of India released guidelines for co-operative banks to manage risks that could arise from outsourcing of financial services.
As per the guidelines, the bank should retain the core control of outsourced activities and make the outsourcing as per guidelines within six months. It also said the CEO and the senior management of co-operative banks would be responsible for evaluating risks of all outsourcing activities.

The Digital Green Pass is the EU’s Digital COVID Certificate (EUDCC), which permits movement of vaccinated people into the European Union countries for general and tourist purposes. It acts as an evidence of a person being vaccinated against COVID-19 disease.
India’s Covishield is not in the European Medicines Agency (EMA) approved vaccine list and hence people vaccinated with Covishield are denied Digital Green Pass.
