Notes:
The 10th edition of Digital News Report for the year 2021 has been released by Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism. It details the impact of COVID 19 pandemic on news consumption across the globe.
The report has been compiled based on the data collected from six continents and 46 markets, which includes India, Indonesia, Thailand, Nigeria, Colombia, and Peru for the first time. India ranked 31 out of 46 countries on levels of trust in news.

Notes:
The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and WhatsApp launched the Digital Skill Champions Program.
It aims to train India’s youth in digital skills including digital safety and online privacy to make them employment ready. A pilot project will be started in 50 campuses in five states – Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.

Notes:
The Fisheries Department of Kerala has established a seven-member committee, headed by P. Sahadevan, former additional director of fisheries, for safety of fishers.
The Committee will study and submit a report on methods to resolve issues related to safety at sea, coastal security and vessel monitoring systems. It will also study on illegal and unregulated fishing.

As per a recent statement from the Japanese embassy, Japan will provide India a $10 million assistance to build cold chain facilities for safe storage of vaccines.
This assistance will provide India with cold chain equipment through the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Japan also leads the operationalization of the COVAX facility, to procure vaccines.

Odisha has partnered with United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to empower and support women through SHGs.
This partnership aims to improve household food and nutritional security by empowering state-supported Women’s Self-Help Groups (WSHGs). The partnership, which will be effective till December 2023, will be focusing on improving the linkage of SHGs with government procurement systems.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that the state has not reported a single rabies case in the last three years.
This makes Goa the first rabies-free state in the country. The state has achieved over 5 lakh vaccinations against the rabies in dogs. It also has set up 24-hours rabies surveillance with an emergency hotline and rapid response team for dog bite victims.

The Government of India has declared the results of the India Smart Cities Awards Contest (ISAC) 2020, under which Uttar Pradesh stood as the top performer followed by Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Among the cities, Indore (Madhya Pradesh) and Surat (Gujarat) have been awarded jointly for their overall development.

2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG) was developed by the Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences (INMAS), a laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in collaboration with Dr Reddy’s company.
Dr Reddy’s Laboratories (DRL) has commercially launched 2-DG drug, an oral drug used to treat moderate to severe Covid patients.

Indian Government’s think tank NITI Aayog released a comprehensive study on the ‘not-for-profit’ hospital model in the country.
It presents research-based findings on not-for-profit hospitals and makes comparisons with private hospitals and health schemes of the Union Government. It also discusses the cost-containment strategies implemented by not-for-profit hospitals.

Notes:
The Reserve Bank of India released guidelines for co-operative banks to manage risks that could arise from outsourcing of financial services.
As per the guidelines, the bank should retain the core control of outsourced activities and make the outsourcing as per guidelines within six months. It also said the CEO and the senior management of co-operative banks would be responsible for evaluating risks of all outsourcing activities.
