This year’s Amazon Summit was held in the Brazilian city of Belém, in which the Amazon nations discussed how the rainforest is managed.
On the final day of the summit, 12 countries have called on wealthy nations to meet their climate funding obligations. A joint statement issued during the summit, called for the development of a financing mechanism which the international community could pay for the critical services provided by forests.

China’s Hangzhou is set to host badminton World Tour Finals for next four years, as confirmed by the sport’s top governing body. This year’s  BWF World Tour Finals will be held from December 13-17 2023.
Hangzhou which is an eastern Chinese city 160 kilometres from Shanghai will also host the pandemic-delayed Asian Games.

The ‘Kamar’ tribe in Chhattisgarh’s Dhamtari district, a particularly vulnerable tribal group (PVTG), has been granted habitat rights to protect their culture and livelihood.
This makes Kamar the first PVTG in the state to receive such status. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel handed over the habitat rights certificates to heads of 22 settlements on the occasion of the World Tribal Day- 9 August.

Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud announced the launch of ‘SuSwagatam’, an online system for generating entry passes to the Supreme Court.
The new initiative eliminates the need for physical passes and long queues, ensuring easier access to the court premises.

The tomb of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of unified China, is believed to contain dangerous traps and remains unopened despite being discovered in 1974.
While historical records suggest the tomb contains crossbows set to shoot intruders and vast amounts of liquid mercury, recent studies indicate that mercury may be seeping out, leading some to consider non-invasive methods of exploration.

In New South Wales, Australia, scientists have identified the remains of a 247-million-year-old lizard-like amphibian, potentially rewriting the evolution of amphibians in the country.
This remarkable species, named Arenaepeton supinatus, survived two mass-extinction events and is part of the rare Temnospondyli family, with only three such fossils identified in Australia to date.

Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Bill was introduced in Rajya Sabha.
It proposes the setting up of a 3-member committee led by the Prime Minister for appointing future chief election commissioners and election commissioners.

President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated Vindhyagiri, a Project 17A frigate, at the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited in Kolkata.
Named after a mountain range in Karnataka, it is the sixth vessel in the series of Project 17A frigates. Seven Project 17A Frigates are under various stages of construction at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) and GRSE.

Recently, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, launched the second phase of the Annual Nationwide Mass Drug Administration (MDA) program for Lymphatic Filariasis.
Lymphatic filariasis is a tropical parasitic disease spread by infected mosquitoes that affects the lymph nodes and vessels.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued guidelines for registered modern medicine doctors, stating that they can reject treatment for aggressive patients, must prescribe generic drugs, and should use social media solely for educational purposes, not patient solicitation.
The comprehensive guidelines, spanning over 60 pages, cover aspects like prescription mentions, permissible advertisements, record-keeping, teleconsultation practices, and caution against receiving commissions or pharmaceutical-sponsored conference participation.
