Notes:
The World Pneumonia Day (WPD)?is observed every year on 12th of November to raise awareness about pneumonia, the world’s leading infectious killer of children under the age of 5. The 2019 theme is “Healthy Lungs for all” to raise awareness, promote prevention and treatment and produce action to combat the disease.

Notes:
As per Article 356 (1) of the Constitution,President Ram Nath Kovind approved a proclamation imposing President’s Rule in Maharashtra, following a recommendation from Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. It has been imposed in Maharashtra for 6 months due to inability of political parties to form a government after 2019 assembly election.The Assembly will be kept under suspended animation.The President’s Rule can be revoked before the 6-month period if a situation emerges for formation of a stable government, If political parties fail to form a government within 6 months, Maharashtra will have to go for another election. However, this is the 3rd instance when President’s Rule has been imposed in the 59-year-old history of the state. The present-day Maharashtra came into existence on 1st May 1960.

To honour elephants that passed away due to trafficking & abuse, India’s first elephant memorial has been launched by India-based conservation charity Wildlife SOS in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. The memorial symbolizes the sacrifice of these gentle giants who lost their lives while suffering brutality at the hands of humans. It highlights 5 rescued elephants whose lives represent plight of captive elephants & why it is critical to ensure others do not suffer a similar fate. The memorial has been set up with the support of UP forest department.

To encourage organ donation, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced an annual award in the name of Suraj Sethi, whose organs were transplanted in six persons following hisdeath in a road accident on October 29.He was a resident of Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district & was working at Surat.

The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a dedicated web portal and a mobile application  “e-Ganna App” for sugarcane farmers of the state. Now, the ane supply slip will be issued to the farmers by sugar mills online. The portal and the App will ensure transparency in the process of getting slips, and facilitate sugarcane supply by farmers to mills and check irregularities. It will also help in eradicating cane mafia and middleman and strengthen cane development societies.

The 11th BRICS Summit 2019 has been attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Brasilia.During the summit, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro accepted Prime Minister Modi’s invitation to be the Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations in 2020.

G Kamala Vardhana Rao, an IAS officer 1990 batch from Kerala Cadre, has been appointed as new CMD of India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC).The ITDC is a hospitality, retail and education company owned by Government of India, under Ministry of Tourism. It came into existence in October 1966 and owns over 17 properties under the Ashok Group of Hotels brand across India.

The 2019 World Kabaddi Cup is being organized by the Punjab government i.e. scheduled to be held from December 1 to 9. This year’s tournament would be dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary of Sikh guru – Guru Nanak Dev ji. Nine teams — India, USA, Australia, England, Sri Lanka, Kenya, New Zealand, Pakistan and Canada — are expected to take part in the tournament.

India will host the 19th Council of Heads of Government (CHG) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) 2020 in New Delhi. This will be first time that India is hosting a such high-level meeting of China-led eight-member economic and security bloc after becoming full member of the organisation in 2017. The latest Summit of heads of government was held in Tashkent in November 2019. The SCO is an influential regional security grouping which is seen as a counterweight to NATO. The aim of the SCO is to maintain peace, stability and security of the region.

The National Press Day (NPD) is celebrated every year on 16th of November as symbolic of free and responsible press in India.This was the day on which the Press Council of India (PCI) started functioning as a moral watchdog to ensure that not only did the press maintain the high standards expected from this powerful medium but also that it was not fettered by the influence or threats of any extraneous factors.
