Notes:
The rubber dam has been under construction on Fhalgu river near Vishnupad temple, Gaya. This new technology of constructing rubber dam in place of concrete dam is designed by IIT Roorkee. It is the first time that any such dam is being constructed in Bihar. The construction will be over by 2023.

Magahi paan is an expensive variety of betel which is grown in Magadha region of Bihar, comprising Gaya, Nalanda, Nawada and Aurangabad districts. It’s non-fibrous, sweeter, tastier and the softest of the lot. It was most favoured paan leaf among the nobility of Lucknow and Bengal in the 18th and 19th centuries and is today one of agricultural products from Bihar with a GI tag.

The Chero tribal community belongs to one of the non-Aryan tribal families related to Dravidian origin. The word Chero has been derived from the Sanskrit word Chetak or Chedak which signifies slave.

The puppets employed in this art form are made of wood and manipulated by strings. Unlike other traditional rod puppets, these puppets are in one piece and have no joints.

It is celebrated in winter when the birds begin their migration from the Himalayas down towards the plains. According to legends, Sama the daughter of Krishna was wrongly cursed to become a bird. Her brother Chakeva observed self penance and brought her back to human form. Thus this represents the sister-brother bond like the Rakhi festival. Clay idols of birds are made representing the sister-brother duo and are decorated traditionally. With various rituals they are then submerged in the pond with a wish that they return to the land next year.

Finance Minister of Bihar, Tarkishore Prasad, had presented the Budget for the financial year 2021-22 on February 22, 2021. Fiscal deficit in 2021-22 was estimated to be Rs 22,511 crore, which accounts for 2.97% of GDSP. Fiscal deficit is defined as shortfall in government’s income as compared with its spending.

In the second edition of NITI Aayog’s India Innovation Index, 2020, Bihar was ranked at 17th place, with the score of 14.48. In first edition of the index (India Innovation Index 2019), Bihar was ranked at 16th position with score of 7.99. Overall enabler score of Bihar was 14.43, while in performance, it was ranked at 15th position with 14.53 score. In investment (score 2.49) and business environment (5.17), it was ranked last. It secured 16th rank in knowledge workers with score of 3.51. In human capital and safety (20.98) and legal environment (40.02), it was ranked at 15th position. It has been ranked at 12th position, in performance parameters.

India’s largest bridge is being built on River Kosi in Supaul. It is 10.2 kilomaters in length. The Central Government has approved the construction of 10.2 kilometers long bridge over the River Kosi in Bihar, according to a media report. Construction of bridge is estimated to cost Rs.1293 Crore. It will be completed in three years. The bridge will connect east and west embankments because Kosi River keeps changing its route frequently. As of now, Bhupen Hazarika Setu is the longest bridge in India, running around 9 kilometres, on Brahmaputra River.

State-owned NTPC commissioned second unit of 660 MW of “Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project” in Bihar. Thus, the total installed capacity of NTPC Group has reached to 65,150 MW. Under the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project, 3 units of 660 MW will be installed in phase manner. Earlier, Nabinagar Power was a 50:50 joint venture between Bihar State Power Holding Company and NTPC. First unit of 1980 MW Nabinagar plant was commissioned in July 2019.
