Zorawar Chand Bakshi, one of India’s most highly decorated generals passes away
Lt Gen Zorawar Chand Bakshi (97), one of India’s most highly decorated generals, has passed away at New Delhi on May 24, 2018. He hailed from Gulyana village near Rawalpindi in Pakistan, where he was born in 1921. Gen Bakshi was most known as one of the commanders of Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 (Operation Ablaze). During the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, he was instrumental in the capture of territory in what is now referred to as the crucial Chicken-Neck Sector, for which he was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal. Fondly called Zoru by his friends, he was decorated for gallantry with the Maha Vir Chakra, Vir Chakra, etc.
