Zero Defect Zero Effect Scheme
The Zero Defect Zero Effect Scheme was launched by Prime Minister Modi in 2020.
What is the main focus of the scheme?
There are two main focuses of the scheme. They are as follows:
- By Zero defect, the scheme aims to produce high quality products.
- By Zero effect, the scheme aims to minimize the adverse effect of the product (and its manufacturing process) on environment.
What are the benefits of the scheme?
The scheme aims to achieve high quality manufacturing. The scope of the scheme is expanded to all the manufacturing sectors with a special focus on MSMEs. The scheme will aim to improve the quality level in the unregulated MSME sector of the country. It is essential to focus on MSME sector as it contributes 38% of India’s GDP and employs more than 110 million people.
What is the role of QCI in the scheme?
The Quality Council of India formulated the first draft of the Zero Defect Zero Effect Scheme. It will assess the manufacturing units and award ratings of silver, bronze, gold and platinum. Platinum means the manufacturer is producing goods of international standard. The QCI will assess based on process automation, design, process capability, defect rate, waste management and people management.
What is the need for Zero Defect Zero Effect Scheme?
India is facing unprecedented technological development in industries, agriculture, business or service sectors. Most of these developments caused environmental degradation. Thus, it is essential to develop innovative ways to reduce the consumption of natural resources. The solutions should protect the global environment. It is essential that the production and environment should always co – exist.
