WorldSkills International 2019

The WorldSkills International organizes world championships of vocational skills every two years.

The challenge brings together the young people, industry, government, education, and institutions to provide a common platform for the promotion of vocal skills.

The competition aims to demonstrate the various advantages of learning a vocational skill and encourage a similar level of respect for people holding both vocational and academic qualifications.

It is also referred to as?the ?Olympics for Skills?.

What are the vocational skills?

  • The education that aims to prepare people to work as a factory technician, welder, craftsmen, fitter or in finer details of the tradecraft is known as Vocational education.
  • It is also referred to as career education or technical education and allows a person to gain skills that would make them more knowledgeable in a specific skill, trade or profession.
  • These professions can be as diverse as an Electrician to a truck driver or from a hairstylist to record keeper or emergency medical technicians.

Current challenge

The current WorldSkills International 2019 will take place in Kazan, Russia.

The Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India has shortlisted a 48-member contingent which will represent India.

During the last edition of WorldSkills at Abu Dhabi in 2017, India won one silver, one bronze and nine medallions of excellence and finished 19th out of 56 countries.
