World Second Largest Data Centre inaugurated in Mumbai
On July 7, 2020, the Union Minister of Communications, Electronics and IT inaugurated the second largest data centre in the world in Mumbai. The data centre was developed by Hiranandani Group.

The data centre is the largest in Asia and second largest in the world. The world’s largest data centre is located in Langfang, china. It occupies 6.3 million square feet of space.

The data centre is located in 600 acre space in Mumbai. The overall power consumption of the data centre is 210 MW. The centre is to get its own solar power plant soon.

Significance
In 2010, digital data in India was around 40,000 peta bytes. This is to shoot up to 2.3 million peta bytes by 2020. The digital data of India is growing twice as fast as that of the global rate. One Peta byte is 1000 Tera bytes.
