World Intellectual Property Day Observed on April 26th
April 26th, 2020 was observed as the World Intellectual Property Day on the theme of ‘Innovate for a Green Future’.
About the Day
The World Intellectual Property Day is observed on April 26th to raise awareness about the importance of patents, trademarks and copyrights and the contributions of innovators to societal development. It marks the enforcement of the Convention Establishing the WIPO in 1970. The 2020 event was observed on the theme of ‘Innovate for a Green Future’.
Innovate for a Green Future
As part of the ‘Innovate for a Green Future’ campaign, WIPO highlighted the importance of a balanced IP system for supporting a green economy. The campaign highlighted the efforts by people to develop green alternatives to fossil fuel based energy, solutions for sustainable food and natural resource management and the use of IP system to support such works and its uptake into the society. It highlighted the roles of patent system, design rights, trademark, GI tagging, plant-breeding rights, copyright system, etc.
