Women Entrepreneurship and Empowerment (WEE) cohort initiative awards

The Women Entrepreneurship and Empowerment, WEE cohort initiative Awards have been announced. The objective of the award is to recognize the efforts of the women in various spheres of life, especially the entrepreneurs.

What is WEE Initiative?

It is an initiative that helps women from the college-going youth to the middle-aged housewives to take up the path of entrepreneurship to make it a viable, fulfilling career option. This is the first such initiative to strengthen the women’s ecosystem of the country, at IIT Delhi, supported and sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology.

About the Award

This award comprises a cash grant of totalling Rs 25 lakhs and this year; this has been bestowed on 11 women entrepreneurs from various parts of the country and from diverse fields.

About the Awardees

Priyanka Prabhakar has been chosen for creating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics based) toys and board games to engage young minds during the coronavirus lockdown. It clocked sales of Rs 40 lakhs during the pandemic.

Meghna Gandhi won the prize for working with underprivileged children in Vadodara during the lockdown period and created natural textiles and COVID-19 related accessories. Her venture clocked sales of Rs 25 lakhs during this pandemic situation.

Snehal Verma has been chosen for working with the fishermen of Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and helped them increase their overall production during the pandemic outbreak.

Kalpana Arora has been chosen for her products like sanitizers from the wastewater. She is a social entrepreneur and works for tribal women and farmers in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand through the self-help groups.

Like this, 11 women have been recognized for their contribution to society at large during the pandemic, through their entrepreneurial ventures.
