Islam. The Year of the Elephant is referred to a year approximately equating to 570 AD in the Islamic History. This was the year, when, Prophet Mohammed was born. As per Islamic legends , the Year of the Elephant name derived from an event which occurred at Mecca in which Abraha, the ruler of the principality of Saba’ in Yemen marched upon the Kaaba with a large army, which included one or more elephants, intending to demolish it. However, the elephant stopped at the boundary around Mecca, and refused to enter.
