Captain Radhika Menon from India, Master of the oil products tanker Sampurna Swarajya, will become the first woman in the world to receive the 2016 International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea for her role in the dramatic rescue of seven fishermen from a sinking fishing boat in tumultuous seas. The award ceremony will take place at IMO Headquarters in London on November 2016. The annual award was established by IMO to provide international recognition for those who, at the risk of losing their own life and perform acts of exceptional bravery.
