Who is Vikram Misri, India’s new Foreign Secretary?

Vikram Misri has been named India’s new foreign secretary. He will start his new job on July 15. Vinay Mohan Kwatra’s term was extended by six months earlier this year, and this selection comes after it. A government statement from the Personnel Ministry says that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet gave its approval for the appointment. Misri was promoted, but his duties as Deputy National Security Advisor (NSA) were also cut back.

Professional Path and Experience

Misri has a lot of diplomatic knowledge because he joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in 1989. He has had important jobs like being India’s ambassador to China, Spain, and Myanmar, which shows that he knows a lot about both global and bilateral ties. In addition to being an ambassador, he has worked in the External Affairs Ministry, the Prime Minister’s Office, and on other international tasks.

Misri was born in Srinagar, India, on November 7, 1964. He started his career as an Under Secretary in the Office of the External Affairs Minister under I.K. Gujral’s administration. He then held important positions in the Pakistan Desk and the Office of the External Affairs Minister under Pranab Mukherjee, who was the minister at the time.
