Who is Suhas Subramanyam?

Senator Suhas Subramanyam recently won the Democratic primary for Virginia’s 10th Congressional District. He is the first Indian-American to win in this very tough field, which is a big deal. The current representative, Jennifer Wexton, who chose not to run for re-election, backed his win. Surramanyam beat out 11 other candidates, one of whom was Krystle Kaul, who is also of Indian-American descent.

Suhas Subramanyam is an American lawyer and politician who was born in Houston, Texas. He is currently serving in the Virginia Senate. His family tree starts in Bengaluru, India. After finishing high school at Clear Lake, Subramanyam went to Tulane University and got a bachelor’s degree in philosophy. His wife Miranda and their two kids are his life. When he was chosen to the Virginia General Assembly in 2019, it was a big moment in his political career. He was the first person of Indian-American, South Asian, and Hindu background to do so.

Subramanyam’s Historic Primary Win

After winning the primary election on June 18, Subramanyam said in a statement how much he appreciated the work of his campaign team, workers, and his mentor, Jennifer Wexton. His team went door-to-door to 50,000 homes over the course of the eight-month effort and raised about $1.2 million. He especially praised Wexton for being a leader and a guide. In the upcoming general election, Subramanyam will now be running against Mike Clancy, who is the Republican candidate. He stressed his dedication to upholding the community’s principles and carrying on the work of his predecessor in order to keep the district under Democratic control.
