Who is Manolo Marquez, Head Coach of the Indian Football Team?
On July 20, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) appointed Manolo Marquez as the new head coach of the Indian men’s football team. He will officially assume the role after the conclusion of the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) season.
Coaching Background
Marquez hails from Barcelona, Spain, and boasts a strong coaching portfolio. His first significant success came in India with Hyderabad FC, where he led the club to its first ISL championship in 2022.
Success with Indian Clubs
After three seasons as a coach at Hyderabad FC, Marquez went on to FC Goa from there. FC Goa came third in the league and made it to the semifinals of the playoffs last season while he was in charge, which added to his reputation in Indian football.
Experience Prior to India
Before coming to India in 2020, Marquez had an extensive coaching career in Spain, working with clubs such as Las Palmas and Espanyol at various levels. He has also gained international experience in Thailand and Croatia.
