WHO is in talks with countries to join its COVAX Facility
The World Health Organization is renewing its invitation to countries to join its COVID 19 Vaccine facility, a mechanism designed to guarantee rapid, fair and equitable access to the COVID 19 vaccines. The facility, named as COVAS facility, is meant to provide affordable access to vaccines to all the people in the world.
What is COVAX Facility?
The World Health Organization is designed to guarantee rapid, fair and equitable access to the vaccine of the deadly virus in all the countries of the world, rich and poor, to make rapid progress towards tackling the COVID 19 Pandemic. Countries joining this platform will have access to doses of vaccines developed using different technologies through agreements that GAVI will conclude with vaccine manufacturers on behalf of the Facility.
Objective
The Facility aims to procure 2 billion doses of vaccines that have passed regulatory approval and WHO prequalification. These vaccines will be delivered equally to all the participating countries, proportional to their populations. The Facility has the objective of providing with a vaccine to immunize at least 20% of their population. Apart from that, there will be expert guidance if that country requires more amount of vaccine to tackle the deadly virus in the country.
COVID 19 Vaccine
At present, there are six experimental vaccines that are going through trials in different stages. Russia is going to register its first COVID 19 Vaccine on August 12 and it has been developed jointly by Gamaleya Institute and Russian Defence Ministry.
