Who invented Ballpoint Pen?
The first ball pen patent was issued to John Loud in 1889 but it was a prototype only and not commercially exploited. The first modern type Ballpoint Pen “Biro” was invented by László Bíró, an Austrian journalist. Production of “Biro” was presented by him in Budapest International Fair in 1931. The ballpoint pen was patented in 1938.
Later, he moved to Argentina, where he filed more patents and established Biro Pens of Argentina. The ballpoint pen in Argentina is known as birome. Later British got license from Biro Pens and produced pens for Royal Air force Aircrew as fountain pens don’t work on high altitude.
László Bíró’s birthday, 29 September is observed as Inventor Day in Argentina.
