Michel Barnier, ex-European Commission vice-president and former French Minister, has been appointed as the chief Brexit negotiator by the European Commission. With this, he has become in charge of leading the Commission Taskforce for the Preparation and Conduct of the Negotiations with the United Kingdom (UK) under Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union (TEU).
