WHO: Cases of Malaria, TB and AIDS are to increase

The World Health Organization announced that the number of deaths due to TB, AIDS and Malaria might increase as the entire focus of health care system all over the world is shifting towards COVID-19.

Highlights

The WHO has made the announcement based on the study conducted by the International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease along with Johns Hopkins University.

Key findings

According to the study, every added month of lock down in India will lead to additional 40,685 deaths between 2020 and 2025. These deaths are to occur only due to Tuberculosis. All over the world, Kenya will face maximum number of death due to the scenario followed by Ukraine, India.

The global incidence of TB could increase to levels that was setback in 2013. This will cause to 8 years of fight against the disease go in vain. Globally, there are possibilities for the numbers infected due to the disease to increase to 6.3 million by 2025.

Malaria and AIDS

The COVID-19 conditions shall also double the number of malaria infections. Also, there are possibilities for children not getting tested. There are continuous disruptions in the antiretroviral therapy that will increase the deaths due to AIDS.
