Whitsun Reef
Whitsun Reef is a boomerang shaped reef in the South China Sea. It is the largest of reefs in the Union Banks of Spratly Islands. It is contested between China and Philippines because of its strategic location. Philippines refers to the reef as the ‘Juan Felipe reef’ and claims the coral reef as it falls within its exclusive economic zone. Recently, Philippines raised concern when over 200 Chinese fishing vessels were spotted at the reef.
