Black Sea and Sea of Azov
Crimean Peninsula is surrounded by two seas — Black Sea and Sea of Azov. It is a land mass towards the north of the Black Sea and has Ukrainian region of Kherson to the south and Russian region of Kuban to the west. Crimea and adjacent territories were united in the Crimean Khanate before becoming part of Russia during 1783. Its economy primarily depends on tourism and agriculture, but since Russian annexation of Crimea in 2014, there has been a considerable drop in the number of people visiting it. With an area of 27,000 square kilometres, Crimea has a population of 2.2 million people.
