Thailand has become the first Asian country to eliminate mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis, it is declared by the World Health Organization (WHO). According to WHO’s global guidelines, mother-to-child transmission of HIV is considered to be effectively eliminated when the rate of transmission falls below 2 %. The Elimination of transmission is defined as a reduction of transmission to such a low level that it no longer constitutes a public health problem. In 2015, Cuba was the world’s first country to receive WHO validation for eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
