Oil sardines
Oil sardines are the most common fish in the Indian coasts and dominant item in the nets of Indian fishermen. As per the data released by the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute Oil sardines at 5.45 lakh tonnes and Indian mackerel at 2.37 lakh tonne were the top two fishes based on the landings in nine maritime states and two union territories.
