Which India city’s name is derived of Banyan Trees ?
Its Vadodara. The ancient name of the city was “Vadapadraka” and “Vatpatrak”. Vat is Banyan Tree. Vatpatrak is Banyan Tree Leaf. The city was won by Raja Chandan of Dor Rajputs Clan from Jains, and the city was called Chandanavati also once upon a time. Virakshetra and Viravati are the other names. The earliest mention of the city by English merchants was Brodera from which the Baroda name derived. In 1974 the Baroda was given “Varodara”, the official name today.
