The Government of India (GoI) has constituted Mahesh Kumar Singla committee to consider ST status to six communities of Assam. These six communities are Koch Rajbongshi, Moran, Matak, Tai Ahom, Chutia and Adivasi (Tea Tribes). Singla is a Special Secretary (Internal Security) Ministry of Home Affairs. The committee shall submit its report by May 31, 2016.
