The 12th South Asian Games 2016 will be jointly hosted by Guwahati and Shillong from February 6-16, 2016. “TIKHOR”, a one-horned rhino, is the mascot of the games. It carries the message and aspiration of peace, stability, amity and progress in the South Asian region. Tikhor is a popular character from Burhi Aair Sadhu (Grand Mother’s Tales). The book is the first compilation of children’s folk stories by Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezboruah, a doyen of modern Assamese literature. The logo of the event is a flower with eight petals representing the 8- participating nations. The theme song of the games is ‘Ei prithivi ekhan krirangan/krira hol shantir prangan’ (This world is a playground and sports is a symbol of peace). The song was written by Bhupen Hazarika in 1995.
