What is SVAMITVA Scheme?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the SVAMITVA Scheme- “Survey of Villages Abadi and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas” on April 24, 2020. The scheme was launched on National Panchayat Day. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj is the nodal ministry for the implementation of this scheme. Svamitva scheme was launched on a pilot-basis for 6 states- Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand and Karnataka.
The scheme was launched to provide help in mapping rural inhabited lands using drones and latest survey methods.
Key Points
- The aim of the scheme is to provide an integrated property validation solution for rural India.
- Drone surveying technology will be used for the demarcation of rural abadi areas.
- This would provide the ‘record of rights’ to village owners of houses in inhabited rural areas in villages and would allow them to use their property as a financial asset for availing loans and other financial benefits from banks.
- The scheme also aims to create accurate land records for rural planning.
- People will be awarded property cards under SVAMITVA scheme. These cards will help the beneficiaries in buying and selling the properties without any dispute for the villagers.
On October 11, 2020, PM Modi launched the physical distribution of property cards under the SVAMITVA Scheme. After the launch of physical distribution of property cards, approximately 1 lakh people with ownership letters will now be able to download their property cards through a linked received on their mobile phones. These beneficiaries of the scheme are from 763 villages across 6 States that includes 346 from Uttar Pradesh, 44 from Madhya Pradesh, 221 from Haryana, 50 from Uttarakhand, two from Karnataka and 100 from Maharashtra.
