What is Podiatry?
Podiatry is the branch of science that deals with study, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower leg.
Chiropodist was a term used for those who practiced Podiatry. Now they are known as podiatrists. Podiatrists treat a wide variety of foot and lower extremity conditions. Some fields with specialization are Reconstructive Rear foot and Ankle Surgery, Sports Medicine, Diabetic limb salvage and wound care. Podopaediatrics is the study of children’s foot and ankle conditions and Forensic Podiatry is the study of footprints, footwear, shoeprints and feet associated with forensic investigations.
