What is CERN in LHC?

CERN is the world’s largest particle physics laboratory which is situated in the north West suburbs of Geneva on the Franco Swiss Border.It was established in 1954 and its main function is to provide the infrastructure needed for high energy physics research including particle accelerators.
CERN is also birth place of World Wide Web as it was taken up as a CERN project named ENQUIRE, initiated by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989 and Robert Cailliau in 1990.
