What is Brachytherapy?
Brachytherapy is a type of radiotherapy, or radiation treatment, that is used to treat cancer. In this form of treatment, a small radioactive source is placed directly into or near the tumor that is being treated. This allows a high dose of radiation to be delivered to the tumor, while minimizing exposure to healthy tissue. Brachytherapy can be performed using a variety of radioactive sources, including seeds, wires, and capsules, which are placed into the body using specialized medical instruments. It is often used to treat cancers of the prostate, cervix, and other organs.
