What is Article 356?

Article 356 of the Constitution of India empowers the President of India to withdraw from the Union the executive and legislative powers of any state ?if he is contented that a situation has emerged in which the government of the state is unable to function according to provisions of the Constitution of India?.
In such a case, the Central government can directly take control over the state machinery and the executive powers of the state are exercised through the Governor of the state.
In news: On 12th November 2019, following the Maharashtra political crisis, President rule was imposed in the state which was revoked on 23rd November 2019.
Chhattisgarh and Telangana remain the only states where the president’s rule is yet to be imposed.
