Artisans of Harappan Civilization
Though stone was in usage during the Harappan civilization, there was also widespread usage of bronze, which was made by combining copper with tin. Bronzesmiths constituted an important portion of the population of craftsmen in the Harappan Civilization.
The Harappans were adept at spinning and weaving both wool and cotton. Remains that show textile impressions on various objects were also found in Harappa. The Harappans also practised boat-making and seal-making. Manufacture of terracotta was also an important artistic venture which occupied craftsmen of that age.
Jewellery and other decorative articles were found in plenty in the Harappan Civilization. Though it is unclear as to where the materials for the jewellery were procured from, jewellery fashioned out of gold, silver and precious stones have been found. Making jewellery out of beads was also common with craftsmen/artisans of the era.
The Harappans also used a potter’s wheel to produce glossy and shining pottery.
Apart from the afore-mentioned, the artisans were also occupied with fashioning axes, spears, knives and saws from the metals which were available to them.
