What are the views of the Supreme Court regarding the prisoner’s rights?

In a catena of cases, the Supreme Court has exposed the cruelty of the system of Prison Administration in India, and sought to humanize it. Time and again, the Apex Court has emphasized that “prison walls do not keep out Fundamental Rights. In State of Andhra Pradesh v. Challa Ramakrishna Reddy it was held by the Supreme Court that: “A prisoner, be he a convict or under-trial or a detenu, does not cease to be a human being. Even when lodged in the jail, he continues to enjoy all his Fundamental Rights including the right to life under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution. On being convicted of crime and deprived of their liberty in accordance with the procedure established by law, prisoners still retain the residue of constitutional rights.”
