What are the privileges of the President under Article 361 of the Indian Constitution?
The office of the President is very august and the Constitution attaches to it may privileges and immunities. He is not answerable to any court for the exercise and performance of the powers and duties o his office, or for “any act done or purporting to be done by him” in the exercise and performance of those powers and duties. The ambit of this immunity is very extensive. The second privilege is that no criminal proceedings whatsoever can be instituted against the President. Thirdly, no process for the arrest or imprisonment of the President can issue from, any court during his term of office. Fourthly, no civil proceedings in which relief is claimed against the president shall be instituted during his term of office in any court.
