What are the Key features of ‘UIDAI Aadhaar FaceRD App’?
Recently, Aadhaar FaceRD App was revealed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI. This app would allow the Aadhaar Authentication User Agencies (AUA) to capture person’s face for authentication purposes. UIDAI has developed the “Aadhaar Face Authentication Technology” in house.
- The app would allow the verification of Aadhaar card holders anytime and at any place.
- It would also do away the need for Aadhaar holders to carry physical identification.
- UIDAI would store the biometric data of Aadhaar card holders in Central Identity Data Repository. Thus, data would not go into private hands.
- It can be used for Aadhaar face authentication for other apps as well.
People can use Aadhaar Face Authentication feature by downloading UIDAI FaceRD App. It can be used for several other Aadhaar Authentication Apps such as PDS, CoWIN vaccination app, Scholarship schemes, Farmer Welfare schemes etc.
About Aadhaar:
Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identity number in India, obtained voluntarily by people. The resident foreign nationals can also get the Aadhaar, for which they require to spend more than 182 days in twelve months immediately before the date of application for enrolment. This identity card is created on the basis of biometric and demographic data. All the data is collected by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

It is a statutory authority, formed in January 2009. It works under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
