Web based Project Monitoring Portal for MES

The Web based project monitoring portal (WBPMP) was launched for military engineering services. It was launched by the defence minister Rajnath Singh in October 2021.

About WBPMP

• The WBPMP was developed by Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Application and Geo-Informatics (BISAB-G). The portal was developed in accordance with the Digital India mission.
• It is the first project management system to be implemented by the military engineering service.
• The armed forces shall gain access to the information about the military projects using the portal
• The portal will mainly serve the military engineering services (MES). The MES is an inter-service organisation. It includes both military and civilian components. It is mainly employed in construction for Indian Armed Forces.

What is Web based project monitoring?

It is basically an online tool. It is a project monitoring system accessed via web browser. All the monitoring activities such as tracking, reviewing, and regulating shall be done using the system. These systems are also used to manage and store project information. It helps to get things done faster. This improves the collaboration among teams.

Significance of WBPMP

The portal will help in tracking project related metrics. This includes task duration, team performance, identifying potential problems and taking required corrective actions. Also, the budget management is easy. India is trying to increase the FDI flow into the defence industry. To achieve this, in 2020, the FDI limit of defence manufacturing was increased from 49% to 74%. The portal will help to monitor the FDI flows in the defence sector and check on its effective use.
