Viraasat Sari Festival 2024
The Ministry of Textiles in India is set to host the third edition of the Viraasat Sari Festival from December 15 to December 28, 2024, will take place at Handloom Haat, Janpath, New Delhi, and aims to celebrate and promote India’s rich handloom heritage, particularly focusing on handwoven saris.
Festival Overview
The Viraasat Sari Festival showcases a variety of handloom saris from across India. The festival will feature 80 stalls where artisans and weavers can sell their products directly to consumers, aiming to enhance the income of handloom weavers and encourage connections with sari enthusiasts.
Visitors can look forward to live demonstrations of weaving and crafts. The festival will also include workshops and discussions centered on sustainability. Folk dances and regional cuisines will enrich the cultural experience, making it a vibrant celebration of India’s textile traditions.

The festival will highlight several unique handloom saris, including Paithani, Kota Doria, Pochampally, Kancheepuram, Jamdani, Chanderi, Banarasi Brocade, and Pashmina. Each of these saris represents distinct regional designs and weaving techniques, showcasing the diversity of Indian textiles.
India’s handloom sector plays important role in the country’s cultural landscape, provides employment to over 3.5 million people, with number being women. Each region has its own unique weaving traditions, contributing to the rich tapestry of Indian culture.
