VINBAX 2024
The 5th Edition of the Vietnam-Indian Bilateral Army Exercise, VINBAX 2024, commenced in Ambala. This exercise follows a previous bilateral exercise held in Vietnam in 2023. It represents an important step in improving relations between India and Vietnam.
Objectives of VINBAX 2024
VINBAX 2024 aims to enhance joint military capabilities. It focuses on the deployment of engineers and medical teams for United Nations peacekeeping operations. The exercise seeks to improve confidence and interoperability between the Indian Army and the Vietnam People’s Army.
Expanded Participation
This edition features bi-service participation for the first time. Personnel from both the Indian Army and Air Force will be involved. The Indian contingent includes 47 members from the Corps of Engineers and other services. The Vietnamese contingent matches this strength with similar representation.
Field Training Exercise
VINBAX 2024 is primarily a field training exercise. It has an enhanced scope compared to previous editions. The training will involve various military operations, focusing on best practices and technical skills.
Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief
A key component of the exercise is a 48-hour validation exercise. This will include demonstrations of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations. The aim is to assess the capabilities of both contingents in executing military operations under UN scenarios.
Cultural Exchange
The joint exercise also promotes cultural exchange. Troops will have the opportunity to learn about each other’s social and cultural heritages. This aspect enhances mutual understanding and strengthens ties beyond military cooperation.
Significance for India-Vietnam Relations
VINBAX 2024 is a milestone in India-Vietnam relations. It reflects both nations’ commitment to defense collaboration. The exercise will encourage deeper military ties and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.
The outcomes of VINBAX 2024 may lead to more extensive military exercises in the future. Enhanced cooperation could pave the way for joint training programs and strategic partnerships. Both countries are likely to benefit from improved military readiness and operational effectiveness.
